When Is it Too Much Updating?
By: Grace Lacey
All too often homeowners are reluctant to have a Realtor in their home until they get some updating done especially when they’ve lived in their home a long time. Unfortunately, many go to a contractor for recommendations and before you know it they’ve spent significant money on renovations that were not necessary to get the home sold. A common mistake is flooring selections and the quality of interior upgrades. Depending on the price range of the home and the upgrades found in competing homes, a seller needs to keep that in mind with any selections they make.
Having a Realtor involved at the beginning of the process is a win- win! She can assist you in making smart choices with respect to renovation projects and assuring you have a good balance between pricing your home properly while making a strong first impression as potential buyers come through the front door. Relying on a professional can make the difference between sitting on the market and getting your place sold.
As an added bonus, most Realtors have a wonderful list of contractors that have proven track records to prevent the horror stories we all hear when using a contractor you don’t know. Working with a Realtor that you trust can save you time and money as you get your home ready for the market.
Your first impression is important so take your time and make it count!
